SAFETY IOP MEASURING WITH EASYTON

IOP measuring

During COVID-19 pandemic the ocular surface has a high risk of infection when exposed to contaminated air. As a result, it is NOT recommended by UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) to use stationary “air puff” applanation tonometers during COVID-19 pandemic for specific reasons:
• There is no guarantee that during the replacement of a rubber tip or interchangeable rod of applanation tonometer, particles of the virus not settled on the tonometer’s parts or doctor’s gloves. This alone prone to the entrance of the virus into the cornea with the high risk of infecting the patient with COVID-19
• During the use of applanation tonometer, the tear film on the surface of the eye brakes and splashes under the “air puff” stream to which COVID-19 virus easily adheres leading to the multiplication of the infection cases.

Stay safe by using IOP measurement method during COVID-19 pandemic
• EASYTON does not create an air stream for measurements. Instead, it measures IOP by vibration through the eyelid to calculate the most accurate IOP
• Even if the virus particles are likely to get on the doctor’s gloves, the patient is protected from the virus entering the mucous membrane of the eye
• EASYTON provides the IOP measurement without touching the cornea or having a direct eye contact. Only the disinfected tip of the measuring rod touches the patient’s eye lid

Easy to disinfected
Because the air particles are easily settled on the surface of the objects, medical staff and patients may be infected after contact. Therefore, strict cleaning and disinfection procedure should be a high priority during COVID-19. It is suggested to use a simple formula “one person, one use, one disinfection”.
EASYTON tonometer is disinfected with one touch. Just wipe a measuring rod with an alcohol swab before and after each patient. The position of the tonometer during the IOP measurement does not contribute to the transmission of the virus.
