In the last century many types of electronic therapy appliances were invented, the most common being TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) and PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields) devices. These have become increasingly common in pharmacies, health clinics and even hospitals. Many people claim to have benefited from them, and I’ve tried many of them myself. But how good are they really? Take a look on the internet and you’ll find that many of them look similar to each other, but are they really the same under their outer shells? And are TENS and PEMF still the best available products of their type?
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
Transcutaneous means ‘through the skin’. The first modern TENS device was patented in the U.S.A. as far back as 1974. TENS machines are mainly used to help reduce pain in muscles, joints and nerves. They ‘zap’ the user with weak direct current electrical pulses through electrodes or pads placed on the skin. Once applied, the current is gradually turned up until the patient feels a tingling sensation – not too high as this can hurt and make the condition worse.
TENS works in a mechanized way by getting the muscles to contract and expand, that is, to go in to spasm. Some people find them prickly and uncomfortable.
TENS machines are limited in application because the deliver a constant signal at a fixed frequency. Often the electrical signal doesn’t penetrate deeply enough into the tissues and cells in the core of the body, or the skin and/or body dilute the energy and misdirect the signal. Above all, they make no attempt to align with Mother Nature, using frequencies, energies and intensities that are not found in the natural world and are foreign to the body.
Research shows that the amount of pain relief varies from person to person, even with the same condition. The pain often ceases when the machine is on, only to return as soon as it is disconnected. All the evidence suggests that TENS helps some people and some conditions some of the time, while many feel no relief at all.
Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Fields (PEMF)
TENS and PEMF are very different. TENS is simply the electro-stimulation of nerve and muscle; PEMF is something else entirely that works on cellular level.
The Earth produces natural magnetic fields which are fundamental to our health and wellbeing. PEMF are a natural feature of our environment and proven by science to be as necessary for our health as good food, fresh water, warmth, sunlight and oxygen. That is why they have been extensively researched by both the American and Russian space programs and why astronauts are equipped with PEMF devices when departed from the Earth’s magnetic field.
Wave frequencies are measured in Hertz (Hz). PEMF in the natural world varies from 0-30 Hz. The Earth’s magnetic field resonates at around 11 Hz, and waves from the atmosphere (known as ‘Schumann Waves/Resonance’) and geomagnetic frequencies from the earth below at 7.8 Hz. Waves around this level are energizing and healthy. Too high and the brain is too highly aroused and the body harmed. Alarmingly, high voltage cables and many household appliances give off at least 50-60 Hz, and (even more alarmingly) computer equipment and mobile (cell) phone masts one billion Hz and more!
PEMF therapeutic appliances aim to counter the harmful effects of artificial man-made fields with pulsed, low level frequencies typically in the range 1-100 Hz. In essence PEMF re-energizes the cells, like powering up a rechargeable battery. In addition it has been shown to:
Improve circulation, blood, cell and tissue oxygenation
Improve endorphin production and immune system functioning
Lowered cortisol (the stress hormones) levels
Accelerate the repair and regeneration of soft tissue, nerve and bone
Reduce pain and inflammation, for instance arthritis, back pain, bursitis, muscle stress, etc.
Have a positive influence on secondary disorders such as migraine and tinnitus
Improve energy, sleep quality, blood pressure and cholesterol levels
Improve nutrient absorption
Relax the muscles and accelerate recovery from physical exertion
Lower cholesterol levels
Reduce respiratory problems and asthma attacks
Positive influence on secondary disorders, such as migraine, tinnitus
Quite a list, I’m sure you’ll agree! However, since a constant frequency is foreign to the body, the only truly effective devices deliver a variable range which mimics the Earth’s natural resonances of around 7.8-11 Hz. TENS doesn’t do this, and neither do most PEMF devices.
ALMAG series fully incorporates tPEMF
ALMAG is the name of a range of state-of-the-art health and wellness devices. Simple, convenient and portable, you can use them as and when you need, bringing relief without side effects. ALMAG fully incorporates the most advanced PEMF technology.
ALMAG and Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to relieve pain, emotional stress and anxiety and bring about a deep relaxing effect on the body. Traditionally practitioners used thin needles or heat to stimulate acupuncture points, but nowadays both electrical stimulation and laser light are widely used.
ALMAG PEMF fields and magnetic pulses work perfectly with the meridians and acupuncture points, balancing the body’s energy system. No understanding of acupuncture theory is required as full instructions are provided. No ordinary PEMF or TENS appliances make this claim.
Adaptive Resonance Explained
Everything in the body from atoms to cells, tissues and organs, works in a rhythmic way. Everything about us is in a constant state of change. Each of the 100 trillion cells that make up the human body has its cycles and rhythms.
Many important biological functions including your mood, sleep, appetite, digestion and energy levels are linked to the circadian (24 hour) rhythms better known as the ‘body clock’. In addition, the heart sends a strong electrical ‘pulse’ through the entire body with every beat; we breathe in a rhythmic way, and digestion too is a highly rhythmical process starting with seeing, smelling and sensing food, filling the stomach, digestion, enzyme production, secretion, filling and emptying the bladder and bowel and so on. The female reproductive cycle has clear cyclical patterns, and many aspects of nature – including the human body – are tuned to the movement of the moon around the Earth, including our energy levels, emotions, hormone cycles and even dreams.
Even the brain has its rhythms, including the brain waves. There are four primary waves:
Delta – slow waves associated with dreamless sleep and the meditative state healing and regeneration (less than 4 Hz).
Theta – mostly seen in sleep. Forms a gateway to learning and memory and associated with heightened awareness, intuition and imagination (5-7 Hz).
Alpha – the resting and creative state of the brain; quiet, flowing thoughts enhancing mental coordination, mind/body awareness and calmness (8-13 Hz).
Beta – the waking state, 14-40 Hz or more. The average person produces brain waves at around 20 Hz when alert, but this increases if they are emotionally aroused. Beta is the state of fast, active, alert, problem solving and focused mental activity.
Over-arousal in certain brain areas is linked with anxiety disorders, sleep problems, nightmares, impulsive behavior, anger /aggression and nerve pain. On the other hand, under-arousal is linked to some types of depression, attention deficit disorder, chronic pain and insomnia.
We enjoy optimum wellness when all the rhythmical and cyclical processes of the body act together in a harmonious way. When they don’t, the result is disease within the body or mind. The restoration of undisturbed, healthy patterns is a central principle of Chinese medicine, and it’s fundamental to ALMAG as well.
How exactly does ALMAG achieve this, and why is it so much more effective than the old-style TENS and other PEMF devices?
Let’s stand back for a moment.
The billions of cycles which form and maintain the body constantly interact for the betterment of the whole. The cycles can last anything from a few days to a few hundred times a second to atomic frequencies billions of times faster than the frequency of light. All these frequencies interact with each other. Also, as mentioned earlier, cycles in nature tend not to happen at a constant rate; there are slight variations, and these variations are crucial. The idea of using single or even a few frequencies to ‘tune up’ the body is far too simplistic.
When two waves meet each other, they ‘interfere’ with each other like ripples on a still pond and the resultant effect is the formation of ‘interference’ patterns as the waves cross through each other. These interference patterns are the basis of holographic images. Holograms are three dimensional images projected from a flat surface into space, formed from the interaction of light waves.
Sound is also part of what happens in the body. When sound waves interact, harmonics are formed which have different properties to the originating sounds. But don’t forget there are other oscillatory mediums in the body including charge, force, gravity, temperature and magnetism, and these mediums interact with each other producing even more interference patterns. The net result of all these interactions is an incomprehensible state of what might be called ‘chaos’ as it is simply too complex to comprehend – but within that chaos is order, and from that order arises the multidimensional and conscious human being. The medium by which all these interactions happen is called a field.
Conclusion
While TENS is a widely available but flawed form of pain relief, the benefits of PEMF technology are well established scientifically, not least by the US and Russian space programs. Each ALMAG-02 / POLIMAG (series) has a set of programs specifically tuned to reestablish particular body rhythms and thus stimulate a natural healing process.
And that is why TENS have had their day!
